Adopt
We have different routes you can take depending on where you are on your journey to adopting your new four-legged friend!
Adoption Requirements:
Adopter must be 18+ years old
Own or rent a home of some kind
Be able to pay the adoption fee in full
Be able to abide by the adoption contract
No history of animal neglect, abuse, or abandonment
Have accurate and current knowledge of what declawing is and the risks associated
Be willing to have an open conversation with us throughout the adoption process. We want to feel confident in you as an adopter and for you to feel confident in us as a rescue.
A.W.W. Return Policy:
Animal Welfare Wisconsin will do everything in our power to ensure if for any reason you can no longer care for or house the animal(s) you adopted from us, no matter how long ago, we will take them back. We can help you find alternative solutions or resources if requested. We want what’s best for the animal and their caregiver given the specific situation.
If the animal(s) must be rehomed, we prefer they return to our rescue to reduce the potential stress of the animal entering a new and different shelter/rescue or from being bounced from home to home. We also keep their records after adoption, so we can get their profile up and open for applications much faster to reduce their length of stay. We also have much more knowledge on their personality and what home would be best suited for them.
Adoption Application
A.W.W.’s adoption application is best used for those who have a specific animal they’ve seen on our social media, Petfinder, Adopt A Pet, at an event, etc. It’s also best for those who don’t prefer to talk over the phone at length or who live farther away.
The form takes at least 15 minutes to fill out. We have a PDF version you can use to fill out and send via email (rescue.aww@gmail.com), or an online form that will send your response to said email.
Matchmaker Questionnaire
A.W.W.’s matchmaker questionnaire is best used for those who know they want a cat or kitten (or two!) but would like some guidance from A.W.W.’s adoption counselors on who would be the best fit for their home and lifestyle. A specific animal isn’t needed to fill this form out.

Current Longest Adoptable: Cho!
Length of Stay: 8 months!
This little girl's name rhymes with "toe", and means "butterfly" in Japanese. Miss Cho had 5 kittens while in our care, and they were named after types of butterflies to fit the theme. The name turned out to fit quite well since Cho has shown to be the definition of "social butterfly". She's made friends of all shapes and sizes including people, dogs, other cats, and kittens. There aren't really any creatures on this earth that Cho doesn't mind sharing a space with.
Cho is a one-of-a-kind little oddball of a cat. She's attentive, kind, playful, forgiving, and optimistic. She's become more and more resilient the more changes that are thrown at her. The only time she loses some of her confidence is when it comes to brand new things (like the rest of us). She used to be so scared of dogs and other cats, but now she has had time and the appropriate environment to adjust to everyone’s boisterous personalities and take it all in stride. Not much seems to faze her anymore!
You couldn't get a sweeter girl who will let you know that she loves you every minute of opportunity she gets. Her favorite way to show you is by asking to be held by staring up at you as she gently puts her paws up on your leg (uppies!) or hopping up to curl up in your lap while gently rubbing her face on your hands while flopping around ridiculously. She also loves an intense neck massage. You will know she's truly gone when her tongue starts to stick out and her eyelids droop. She also chirps and meows in greeting in such a characteristic way, and will hop on your back/shoulders if you ignore her for too long and bend over any amount. Her meows are easy to recognize in a chorus of other cat meows. She truly is a one of a kind cat who brings a smile to AWW volunteers every day she's with us.
If you're interested in Cho, please contact A.W.W. by calling or texting 715-501-3000, emailing at rescue.aww@gmail.com, messaging our Facebook page, or visit our website www.animalwelfarewi.org to fill out an adoption application under our Services and Adopt pages. Adoption applications aren't required to adopt from AWW but are encouraged. **Our website is still under construction and not fully completed. Adoption applications should be up and running, but please reach out if you're having trouble or haven't heard from us in 3 days or more.**
